Organised on Handy. Each trade's licence on show, each job's progress in one place.

An example building site sign on Handy: the builder and their licence, and each trade on the job with their licence and where their work is up to.

One login, whichever side of the job you're on

Plenty of people are both. A chippy can take jobs from a builder on Monday and run their own deck job on Friday, from the same account.

Trades

Work from builders and locals nearby, without paying for leads.

  • Jobs arrive with the price on the table
  • Accept, counter or pass in one tap
  • Crew diary, job map and what's owed

How Handy works for homeowners

How a job runs on Handy

From the first message to the money in the bank, the job lives in one place that both sides can see.

  1. 1

    Post it or find someone

Builders post a job to the board or offer it to a trade they know. Homeowners search their suburb and ask for a quote, or post the job and let trades bid.

    Bathroom floor and wall tiling

    Lot 2 Gurner St, Marrickville

    Tiler3 bids in

  2. 2

    Agree the price

The offer sits at the top of one conversation. The trade accepts it, counters it or passes, and nobody starts until both sides agree.

    Offer from Carter Constructions

    $4,600 flat

    Accepted by Inner West Tiling

  3. 3

    Do the work

Book the crew, tick off each step on site and add photos. The builder sees progress without picking up the phone.

    Waterproofing cured

    Floor tiles laid

    Wall tiles and grout

  4. 4

    Sign off and get paid

The trade marks it done, the builder inspects and signs it off, and either side records the payment. The job moves to finished.

The tools for after the handshake

Most platforms stop once you've found someone. Handy keeps going, because that's when the phone calls, lost texts and chasing start. Everyone gets an inbox for offers and updates.

Starting small, on purpose

Handy is in beta in 3 parts of Sydney. Keeping it local means we can check every listing by hand, meet the trades and builders using it, and fix what doesn't work before we grow.

Outside those suburbs? Join the waitlist. We open the suburbs with the longest lists next, and founding members keep free leads for good.

Questions people ask

What does Handy cost?
Nothing. No subscription, no credit card, no fee to post a job or ask for a quote. Trades never pay for leads, and founding members keep that for good. A couple of things are optional extras — boosting a job post for more visibility, and (later) paying a trade through Handy instead of another way.
Are the trades licensed?
Every trade business lists its licence number and ABN, and a person checks each listing before it goes live. When we've also checked the licence on the NSW Fair Trading register, the profile gets a blue tick. Licences can lapse, so it's still worth a look on the NSW Fair Trading licence check before work starts.
I just need a tradie for a job around the house — how does that work?
Search the directory and contact a trade directly, or post the job and licensed trades who work your suburb bid on it with a price. You pick who you like the look of, or don't pick anyone at all. No account tools to learn — that side of Handy is for the trades doing the work.
How do ratings work?
Builders rate trades and trades rate builders, but only after a job is signed off and paid on Handy, so every rating comes from real work. Time and quality are rated separately. Neither side sees the other's rating until both have rated or two weeks have passed.
Why isn't Handy in my suburb?
We're starting with the Inner West, Ryde and the Sutherland Shire so we can meet the people using it and get it right. Join the waitlist with your postcode and we'll open the suburbs with the most people waiting next.
Can I be a trade and a builder?
Yes. One account does everything. Attach a trade business, a builder profile or both, and switch between them as the job needs.
I work for someone else. Can I join?
Handy is for trades who run their own business with an ABN, solo or with a small crew. If you work for a business already on Handy, the owner can add you to their crew so you see the jobs you're on.
Is Handy a place to hire staff?
No. Hiring is up to each business. Handy is for finding a trade business to do a job, and running that job once you've agreed on it.
